Written especially for homeschoolers….This book was written especially for homeschoolers, using the literature approach to historical studies. As students enjoy the books and learn about Missouri’s rich heritage, they will record their discoveries in their own personal Missouri Notebook. Your student will learn about Missouri geography, early American explorers, early settlers in Missouri, and events of historical significance, such as: · Our famous rivers · The building of St. Louis · The Louisiana Purchase · The Lewis and Clark expedition · The controversy surrounding Missouri's application for statehood · Westward Expansion · The Missouri Compromise · Slavery in Missouri · The Civil War · Famous Missourians ·
And so much more… Here are some reasons you may want to choose A Guide to Studying Missouri History Through Literature. · Written with grades 2-5 in mind, but easily adaptable to other grades. · The guide can be used to teach multiple grade levels at the same time. · Students make a personal Missouri Notebook that they will be proud of and enjoy working in. · The Notebook approach allows work to be geared to individual students' age and ability. · Interesting books are the base of the study, rather than a "dry" textbook. · The course will give you and your students a better understanding and appreciation for the state's rich heritage. · The "snuggle factor"... You and your children can study Missouri History by snuggling up on the couch with a good book each day. · The research has been done for you. All you have to do is decide how much you want to cover and do each day. · You will probably find many of the books in your local library, or through the inter-library loan program. If you prefer to buy the books, most are easily obtained through your local bookstore or online sources such as Amazon.com · Lots of field trip suggestions and helpful web sites are given in the guide. This is a soft back, 55-page comb bound and can be ordered through this web site. As mentioned
above, the study was originally written for a multi-level group of students
from 2nd through 5th grade. However, it is easily adaptable to any grade
and/or ability level. If you are
teaching students who aren’t strong readers or are a mixed age group, you can
read the books aloud to your students.
Older students may want to read the books on their own. In addition, rather than filling in workbook
pages, your students make their own Missouri Notebooks. This further allows adaptation to
individual students. You can request
a few sentences about a Missouri event from your 1st grader, while requiring
an entire page of writing from your 5th grader. You can also incorporate drawing of illustrations, or other
embellishments, depending on your student’s interests and abilities. The guide also gives you many field trip
suggestions, pertinent web sites, and suggestions for your student’s Missouri
Notebook. For more details about the guide, click here.
